Getting a new puppy for a pet is a serious decision. Because nearly all dog breeds live between 10 and 15 years getting a puppy is a promise that should not be taken lightly.
Step one when selecting a purebred dog as a family pet is to find a well-respected and trustworthy puppy breeder. The top breeders are concerned about avoiding health and behavior problems and they are devoted to bringing out the best of their chosen breed.
Because your puppy will grow up you should spend time with some adult dogs from the preferred breed before even looking at the puppies. Talk to breeders, other owners and local dog obedience trainers to get more information.
The numerous breeds all have diverse personality that you will need to take into consideration. Ensure that the breed that you choose has qualities that you can live with. For instance, some dogs shed an enormous quantity and there are some breeds that make a deep howling noise called ”baying”. If you have a problem with a noisy dog those breeds may not be a good choice for you. Same with the hair, if you cannot bear dog hair on your furniture you may want to get a different type of dog. Or if your family tends to be quieter and calmer a boisterous little Terrier or a Chihuahua may not fit into your family unit.
The people who work at your neighboring pet store or veterinarian’s office usually can give you a lot of indispensable information about the breed you are considering. It is nice to know about likely health issues before you see the appealing puppies.
Most of the pedigree breeds have a tendency towards inherited health problems such as cleft palate, hip dysplasia, heart problems or blood disorders.
If you want some really important and unbiased information talk with one or more dog obedience instructors. They generally have a variety of great information that they can give you on the various breeds and what to look for when selecting a puppy.
For lots of years to come your new puppy will with a bit of luck be a dearly loved member of your family. You need to accumulate some sound information and use that to choose your puppy and not just the ”puppy love” that we all are apt to experience around endearing little puppies. Every puppy will grow out of that really cute state and the adult dog is the one who will be your pet for years to come.
Your attitude is probably the most important factors of training your puppy. For more information on training a dog or you are interested in pet training kennel visit us at our blog!

Our 6 yr old Golden has hip dysplasia.
We re-homed him, he was in very poor condition. He was 15kg over weight and has hip dysplasia.
The vet thought the only treatment was surgery. We have since had him on Velvet Agility from New Zealand. He is now moving like a two year old, he is running and jumping like never before.
Mac has a new life and is happier than he has ever been. I can’t express enough how this has changed our lives. I am looking forward to getting my new pup on the supplement to help create strong bones.
